Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communications is 5G technology trend and focus, with ultra-reliable and low-latency requirements. V2X also has huge global market potential. There is also strong industry demand on V2X technologies, with major industry and Smart Mobility Consortium (SMC) partners approaching ASTRI to collaborate on V2X technologies and trials and explore market opportunities together. The objective of this project is to develop and use V2X technologies to improve Road Safety and enable Smart Mobility in Hong Kong. The project team aims to build and integrate end-to-end V2X Networking System, and different road safety V2X use cases with engaged partners in Hong Kong. The innovative multi-tier architecture design of proposed V2X Networking System will be proposed for supporting scalable and flexible V2X network deployment and operation (with consideration of Local, District and Wide Area V2X networks). The software design will be V2X technology agnostic, interoperable, open and extensible. It can support major V2X standards (for both LTE-V2X and DSRC) and ensure device interoperability. It also allows cost-effective adaptation for multiple vehicle devices and data, and enables possible third party Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) integration. Besides, the optimized software design for event handling and data processing with V2X alarm priorities, and possible integration with MEC (Mobile Edge Computing) platform will be proposed to address low latency requirements. To enhance accuracy of V2X alarms, multiple data fusion and correlation with application algorithms will be imposed as well. Last, the expected outcomes of this project will be requirements and specifications for road safety V2X use cases in Hong Kong; V2X Networking System software and design for enabling V2X demonstrations, trials and possible commercial deployment; V2X test plan and reports for verifying system capabilities and features; and possible application algorithms for patent ideas.
